Quarter Dun Horsemanship

Training

Here at Quarter Dun Horsemanship we specialize and focus on colt starting. We also offer limited tuneups/foundation training and cattle/ranch work while also having limited experience in roping, barrel racing and pleasure. We take pride in providing fun, safe, well rounded horses for anyone to go enjoy on the weekends or at the horse show!

For all of our training programs we include a high quality alfalfa hay, ADM grain and Remond Rock Salt in our pricing. We will gladly feed any other grain & supplements at owners expense. Your horse will be worked with an average of 5-6 days a week while in training depending on your horse's needs and physical abilities. A $200 non-refundable deposit is required to reserve any training spot. Current shots and coggins are required at the time of drop off. Owners are responsible for any vet, farrier, dental, chiropractic or magna wave treatment - any of which will be recommended if we feel it is needed for the horse's best interest. Please contact us for pricing and openings.

If you would love to add Redmond Rock Salt to your program, use our code: Daytonam20 to save yourself 20%.

Colt Starting

Our colt starting program is a minimum of 90 days. Additional weeks available. We allow 90 days for the young ones so they are not pushed and have plenty of time to learn at their own pace. We do not rush to the first ride and properly set them up, preparing them for the ride. The first 90 days of a colts training are the most important. We focus on safety for the horse and rider, in and out of the arena. We want to set the horses up for a successful career ahead of them. We prefer our colts to NOT be saddled prior to arrival at our ranch. A horse is nothing without a great foundation!

Basic Training

Our basic program is for foundation training, problem horses, or tune ups. This program is a minimum of 60 days vs the 'standard' 30 day program. Additional weeks available. We decided to hold our program this way so each horse can receive the proper training it deserves, allowing an average of 2 weeks of groundwork and 6 weeks of riding. Each horse is different and requires time to settle in, find the source of the issue and accurately learn how to work through them. We focus on safety for the horse and rider, in and out of the arena. This is an application training program, meaning you have to apply for your horse to be accepted into.

Groundwork Training

We offer 30 days of groundwork training for young horses needing basic ground manners but not ready to start undersaddle. It helps them gain more respect for the handler, helps older horses under saddle and better prepares the young ones going unto saddle training later on. This program is designed for weanlings, yearlings, 2yr old or older horses needing a tuneup on ground manners.

Riding Lessons

We offer private lessons for all the one on one time you need! Learn to handle, ride, and care for horses, on the ground and under saddle. Better your horsemanship, or refine you and your horses skills. Bring your horse or use ours! We offer 1 hour riding lessons for ages 6 & up.
For Tiny Tots, ages 2-5, we offer 1/2 hour sessions where they get to brush, saddle and a lead line ride! It's a great way to introduce the littles to riding early on!

Clinics

We offer 1 or 2 day clinics here at our ranch in Central IL. There is a variety of options with a limit at 4 people at each clinic to ensure each individual gets the needed one on one time. Please check our events page for upcoming clinics!

Day Lessons

We offer what we call a "day lesson". This is a private, all day lesson, centered around whatever you choose! Come to our ranch and learn our training techniques, one on one. We can help better your horsemanship or work on any problems you are having while enjoying the use of the Quarter Dun Ranch facility!
Multiple days can be scheduled at once. Hours from 9am to 4pm with a lunch break, available 7 days/week. Horse & trailer hookup at our ranch is available for an additional rate.
