Quarter Dun Horsemanship
Welcome to Quarter Dun Horsemanship!
At Quarter Dun Horsemanship, we are passionate about creating meaningful connections between horses and humans. We’re David and Daytona Detmers, the proud owners and founders of Quarter Dun Horsemanship. Our mission is to help equestrians of all levels achieve success with their equine partners. With over 15 years of combined experience, we’ve dedicated our lives to horsemanship, training, and sharing our love for horses.
About Us
Our journey has been shaped by years of hard work, learning, and a shared passion for equestrian life. We share a rich history in the equestrian world, having explored a wide variety of disciplines, including sorting, pleasure, speed events, trail riding, obstacles, and ranch work. Today, our primary focus lies in competing with the American Ranch Horse Association (ARHA), excelling in reining, cattle work, ranchmanship, and building strong foundations for young horses to succeed in various disciplines.
Daytona started training horses and teaching horsemanship at a young age, learning from Carrie Lynch, whose mentorship built a strong foundation for her career. In 2017, she launched her first training and lesson business in Central Illinois, specializing in colt starting, tune-ups, and lessons tailored for riders of all skill levels. She began this adventure with a blank slate and with a lot of hard work and dedication that little piece of property turned into a 7 stall barn with multiple runs, an indoor riding arena, outdoor riding arena, round pen and obstacle course. Meanwhile, David’s path began with years of riding for pleasure while working full-time as a flight paramedic. In 2021 David joined Daytona officially beginning his training journey.
In 2022, we officially launched Quarter Dun Horsemanship and soon after relocated to our current facility in Sherman, IL. David took the leap to join Quarter Dun Horsemanship full-time, and together, we’ve been dedicated to expanding the business and continually improving our craft. We’ve had the privilege of learning from incredible trainers and clinicians like Andrea Fappani, Nick Dowers, Shawn Flarida, and Clinton Anderson, as well as local experts such as Lori Nelson and Brock & Brittany Reinbach.
We’re proud to say that the horses who started us on this journey are still with us. Remi, David’s 26-year-old Appaloosa gelding, and Buddy, Daytona’s 17-year-old Quarter Horse gelding, are cherished members of our ranch family and a constant reminder of how far we’ve come.
