About Us at Quarter Dun Horsemanship
Welcome to Quarter Dun Horsemanship!

Let’s start off by introducing ourselves! David & Daytona Detmers, owner and founder of Quarter Dun Horsemanship.
David & Daytona both have had a passion for helping both horses and humans for many years. A combined total for well over 15 years. Between the two of us we have shown(or had fun in) a multitude of different disciples including sorting, pleasure, speed events, trail riding, obstacles and ranch work, while our main passion these days lies within showing in ARHA(American Ranch Horse Association), Reining and putting a solid foundation on colts to go in anyone of those directions.
From the very get go Daytona has been training horses, helping owners with their horses and teaching young students horsemanship. For many years Daytona rode under the guidance of Trainer and Instructor, Carrie Lynch of Carrie Lynch Horsemanship, giving her the start in horsemanship. While David spent many years riding for pleasure and made a career out of being a full time flight paramedic, in 2023 he made the leap to join Daytona full time in running the business. While we both operate Quarter Dun full time, it is our goal to work with other trainers and clinicians from local to far to keep our skills sharp and our knowledge growing daily. We have taken time to learn from Andrea Fappani, Nick Dowers, Shawn Flarida, Clinton Anderson as well as other local trainers such as Lori Nelson and Brock & Brittany Reinbach.
To this day, Both David & Daytona, still have their first horse’s they started out with. Remi, Davids 24 yr old Appy gelding & Buddy, Daytonas 15 yr old Quarter Horse gelding. Both will live out their life on the ranch as they have made a huge impact on how we have gotten here today.
Back in 2017, Daytona started training and teaching full time out of the first ranch that started out as a blank slate. With a lot of hard work and dedication that little piece of property turned into a 7 stall barn with multiple runs, an indoor riding arena, outdoor riding arena, round pen and obstacle course. Now Quarter Dun offers training, boarding, lessons, clinics and more out of our facility in Sherman, IL. We have to offer 36 stalls with turnout options, a 60x100 indoor riding arena, a 175x200 outdoor riding arena, a 50ft round pen, multiple tack rooms, wash rack, bathroom and air controlled lounge with viewing of our indoor arena.
We want to personally thank everyone for their continued support both through social media and personal interactions. Working with horses has always been a dream of ours and being able to help people drives home our objective. We strive to become better horsewoman/men, which would not be possible without having our clients support and giving us the chance to work with some amazing animals. We hope you have enjoyed reading a little bit about us and we look forward to potentially helping you and your equine companion work together as a unified team!
